January is Vocational Service Month<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

January is Vocational Service Month.\u00a0Vocational Service Month is an opportunity to begin year-long vocational service activities, ranging from Rotary discussions to awards to community projects.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vocational Service focuses on:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \n
  • Adherence to and promotion of the highest ethical standards in all occupations, including fair treatment of employers, employees, associates, competitors, and the public.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • The recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations, not just those that are pursued by Rotarians.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • The contribution of your vocational talents to solving the problems of society and meeting the needs of the community.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    Some suggested activities to undertake during the Month:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

      \n
    • Devote a\u00a0meeting <\/strong>in January to examine\u00a0the second Avenue of Service, including The Four-Way Test and The Declaration of Rotarians in Business and Professions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Introduce a “mini-classifications talk” <\/strong>series in which each member gives a five-minute talk on his or her vocation. Schedule one speaker for the beginning of each meeting until everyone has made a presentation. The purpose of these talks is to promote vocational awareness among Rotarians and help them recognize the worthiness of all useful occupations.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Present a vocational award <\/strong>to someone in the community who has exemplified outstanding professional achievement while maintaining very high ethical standards.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Invite experts to give a presentation <\/strong>on the vocational needs of the community and develop a project in response to those needs<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Encourage club members <\/strong>to put their vocational skills to work as a Rotary Volunteer.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
