The International Youth Climate Competition and Summit is a successful international youth climate empowerment program conceived by Rotary in Hong Kong and the Philippines. It has been running successfully for the last three years. The RC Tai Po, RC Makati San Lorenzo, and Climate Reality Project have jointly organized the first Summit in 2021, with the first Competition in 2022. The second Summit was held successfully in May 2023 with over 400 international participants.

The 2nd International Climate Youth Competition with the 3rd Summit in RY 2023/4 is organized in partnership with the Rotary D3450 Preserve Planet Earth Committee, Rotary Club of Makati San Lorenzo and Rotary Club of Tai Po, and with solid support from the Climate Reality Project Philippines and the Child Psych Ecology Foundation, Hong Kong,

It aims to help budding young climate advocates currently taking their secondary to tertiary studies develop potential innovative solutions to their communities’ climate and environmental problems.

This launch of the Competition will give a chance for young climate advocates to think about innovative climate solutions in four (4) thematic areas for global action:

1) just energy transition
2) sustainable urban mobility,
3) zero-waste solutions
4) practices and food security.

After the successful launch, the key events planned and their timeline will include the following:

  • Dec 2023 – Call for Proposals from the international participants
  • Jan 2024 – Pre-pitch training and soft advocacy skill training
  • Feb 2024 – Training Sessions for Proposal Write-ups
  • March 2024- Pitch by teams to the International Judges Panel
  • April 2024 – International Youth Climate Summit with Winners Presentations & Awards

The International Youth Climate Competition and Summit contributed to the Rotary PPE and environmental focuses. It also empowered international youth participants to develop innovative solutions to tackle the global climate crisis and improve their advocacy skills. It contributed to global ecological improvements and youth developments internationally.

Since June 2020, “Supporting the Environment” has been recognised by Rotary International (RI) as the new avenue of service and the seventh area of focus. Rotary International District 3450 Preserve Planet Earth Committee will hold a video competition with an open section for Tertiary School students to increase social participation, raise public awareness, and promote environmental protection. The theme of the competition is “Carbon Zero As It Glams, Plastic Zero As It Trends”.
